We had a great time with our campers at Erie Niagara AHEC’s 2022 Health Career Summer Camp this past July! Generously funded by HOPE Buffalo and located at D’Youville University, our Health Career Camp aimed to expose high school students to various health career paths while building their college and career readiness skills. 14 teens joined us for camp, learning about topics ranging from sexual health to youth advocacy via workshops, hands-on activities, and even tours showcasing local community health efforts. Scroll through the photos below to see some of the activities we participated in throughout the camp!

Students had the opportunity to learn about food safety and healthy cooking by making their own pinto bean quesadillas at the D’Lish Demonstration Kitchen.

During a presentation from D’Youville’s physician assistant program, students learned how to properly wrap injuries with bandages.

Students learned how to use different chiropractic tools with hands-on demos. Here, a student learns the parts of the spine on a dummy.

At the D’Youville Clinical Nursing Skills Lab, students were able to see medical models in action. These models were able to talk, move, and simulate various illnesses for the students to practice responding to.

Throughout camp, students developed PSAs related to health topics they learned about, including sexual, mental, and public health, as well as nutrition and health literacy. Here, students present their TikTok PSA.

Students went on a walking tour of local community gardens supported by Grassroots Gardens of WNY, learning about food insecurity, food deserts, and community efforts to combat these issues.
