AHEC Future Docs: Celebrating a Successful First Year and Looking Ahead!

Erie Niagara AHEC is proud to celebrate the completion of the inaugural AHEC Future Docs program!

As the pilot year of this program, AHEC Future Docs supported 11 dedicated undergraduate pre-medical students as they prepared for the medical school application process. Throughout the program, students have demonstrated a strong commitment and passion for pursuing a career in medicine.

Over the past several months, students participated in a variety of experiences designed to strength their academic, personal, and professional skills to prepare for their next steps in their healthcare career journey.

AHEC Future Docs students:

·        Completed a comprehensive MCAT test preparation course through The Princeton Review

·        Participated in one-on-one mentoring with current medical students

·        Received guidance on medical school applications, interviews, and requesting letters of recommendation

·        Attended a panel discussion with current medical students

·        Completed Health Literacy for Providers training

·        Participated in PATCH for Providers training

·        Developed valuable time management and professional skills

In addition, through our partnership with Catholic Health, students were paired with physicians for shadowing experiences that provided firsthand exposure to healthcare careers. These opportunities allowed students to gain valuable insight on the various careers and specialties in medicine, interaction with patients, and the realities as working as medical providers.

This program would not have been possible without the support of our partners, mentors, physicians, and content area experts who spent their time and expertise helping these students towards their goal of acceptance into medical school.

To the students of the 2025-2026 cohort of AHEC Future Docs, thank you for your dedication and enthusiasm to the field of medicine. The future of healthcare is bright with you in it!

Following the success of this pilot year, Erie Niagara AHEC is excited to announce that AHEC Future Docs will return for a second cohort! Applications will open in July and be available on our website then. We look forward to supporting the next generation of physicians and healthcare leaders!
