About the New York State Area Health Education Center System (NYS AHEC System)

The NYS AHEC System serves the governing body of nine AHECS across New York State. The New York State AHEC System was created following a 1971 legislation passed by Congress authorizing the establishment of Area Health Education Center programs in response to the unequal distribution of the health workforce. Today, the New York State AHEC System and the local AHECs are funded by the Federal Department of Health and Human Services (Bureau of Health Professions), New York State’s Health Care Reform Act of 2000 and local community support.
